What Mac Software Is Similar To Tg Pro For Free

Hey all,
I've recently purchased a maxed out MBP with 5600M graphics.
I came across an app called TG Pro for system monitoring and fan control.
Would anyone recommend using TG Pro specifically and would anyone recommend using a system monitoring app in general?
Are these safe to use? TG Pro offers fan control, although I don't feel I need it. I'd just like to see the data and want my system to take care of the rest.
I've got the settings on 'System' and don't want to mess around with anything else. Does the 'System' settings keep all default settings?
Would anyone advise not to use such software? If so, why?
